First responders rescue dog trapped in Happy Valley pond
Emergency crews in Happy Valley sprang into action on Thursday afternoon to rescue a dog that had become trapped in a local pond.
According to officials, the incident occurred near Southeast 162nd Avenue and Sunnyside Road, where a dog was spotted struggling in the water. Witnesses quickly called 911, prompting a swift response from firefighters and animal control officers.
Upon arrival, first responders assessed the situation and determined that the dog was unable to escape the pond on its own. Firefighters donned specialized gear and carefully entered the water to reach the stranded animal.
After a brief but focused effort, the team managed to safely retrieve the dog and bring it back to shore. The dog appeared cold and frightened but was otherwise unharmed.
Officials praised the quick actions of both the bystanders who reported the incident and the rescue team. They also reminded pet owners to keep a close eye on their animals near bodies of water, especially during colder months when conditions can be hazardous.
The rescued dog was reunited with its owner shortly after the ordeal. No injuries to first responders or the animal were reported.
