Encouraging Positive Behavior
The program, known as “Operation Chill,” aims to foster goodwill between law enforcement and young people. Deputies are equipped with Slurpee coupons to distribute to kids they observe engaging in acts such as helping others, wearing a helmet while biking, or simply showing kindness in their communities.
“Operation Chill is a great way for us to connect with kids in a positive setting,” said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office. “It gives us an opportunity to recognize and reward the great things kids are doing every day.”
How the Program Works
Throughout the summer, deputies on patrol will be on the lookout for children demonstrating responsible or considerate behavior. When they spot someone deserving, they’ll hand out a coupon redeemable for a complimentary small Slurpee at any participating 7-Eleven location.
- Helping a neighbor or friend
- Following safety rules, like using crosswalks or helmets
- Displaying respect or kindness to others
These are just a few examples of the actions that could earn a free treat.
Building Community Connections
The Sheriff’s Office hopes the program will not only encourage positive choices but also strengthen relationships between deputies and young residents. By recognizing good behavior, law enforcement aims to create more opportunities for friendly, informal interactions with local youth.
“We want kids to see us as approachable and supportive,” the spokesperson added. “A simple gesture like a Slurpee coupon can go a long way in building trust and making a lasting impression.”

Operation Chill is a nationwide effort launched by 7-Eleven in 1995. Since its inception, millions of coupons have been distributed to law enforcement agencies across the country, helping to reward positive actions and foster community spirit.
